Artists, designers and filmmakers often use storyboarding as a framework to develop linear storytelling. Similarly, the act of storyboarding helps children structure their narratives and organize their thinking.

This Li'l Stories storyboard is for 1st to 4th graders. It has 3 input, 9 story and 2 disruption boxes:

3 input boxes: Content covered in your class or at home can be used to inspire characters, settings and plots of stories created by students. You can define these elements or let the children come up with their own.

9 story boxes: Children can retell stories they’ve read or heard in class, or create new stories around specific topics or story structures like historical narratives, pourquoi tales, or fairy tales.

2 disruption boxes: As an option, you can use the “disruption” fields to have children add characters or change the settings of their stories. These can be defined by you or chosen by the students. It’s a great way for them to learn about story elements.

• Print the storyboard on an 11” by 17” sheet of paper.

• The PDF includes instructions, activity ideas and tips.

• Use 2″ by 2″ Post-its if you’d like students to be able to edit their stories.
